'Bee decline' is well covered in the media. However, there is insufficient information about the causes for this decline, the fact that it is not just honeybees that are being affected, and - most importantly - the solutions.
My one-day Bee Aware workshops cover these issues and much more besides.....in an in-depth, accessible and extremely enjoyable way!
Pollination - the relationship between pollinators and flowers.
Bumblebees - life cycle, behaviour, how to identify different species, buzz pollination, cuckoo bumblebees, diseases and predators.
Solitary bees - behaviour, life cycles, role as pollinators, identification keys, how to attract them to your garden
Honeybees - behaviour, role as pollinators, lifecycle, history, native dark bee, pests, predators, reasons for their decline and touching on 'sustainable' beekeeping.
Bee decline - habitat loss, pesticides (neonicotinoids), pests & diseases and climate change
Gardening for bees - what to plant and how to make your garden more wildlife friendly
When & where?
I have posted a list of talks and workshops already arranged for 2013 below, but would love to arrange more.
I am happy to travel anywhere in the UK to deliver these workshops, but do need to have my travel expenses covered and charge a fee. The best way to keep the costs down for the participants is for you to provide a venue large enough to seat up to 20 people. A charge of between £25 and £30 per person for attending the workshop seems to work well.
Please contact me via email if you are interested in hosting one of these workshops

Feedback from 'Food From the Sky' course April 2012 Couch End London:
"I was extremely impressed by Brigit’s passion and knowledge of the subject matter; it was quickly apparent that, whilst this area is huge and we would only be scratching the surface of things, she was putting across a very efficient over-view for us to start with."
"I would definitely recommend the course to others - this subject is of massive current relevance to everyone and Brigit succeeds in making it enjoyably accessible."
My fee is variable; starting at £120 for a one-day local workshop. It depends very much on how far I need to travel to reach the venue, whether I need overnight accommodation and what your requirements are.
I charge travel expenses on top of my fee to cover either my return journey by train - or fuel @ 45p per mile. This can be reduced if I have other talks/workshops in the area
If you are interested in booking me to run a workshop do please email me for more information.

This sounds wonderful Brigit! I won't be in the UK for the first one, but I look forward to seeing more dates ... maybe late August? :) xxx
ReplyDeleteOoh.....I do hope so Laura! I'll be doing a few in Cornwall over the summer too....and hopefully other areas in the UK if I can find people who would like to host them :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of this, too, Brigit, as it's something I'm really interested in. Will you be doing any near Leicester at any time?
ReplyDeleteI'd very much like to find a way to take this workshop to other areas. If you think you could get half a dozen or more people together who may be interested do please let me know.....
DeleteThis sounds very interesting Brigit; may I ask is there a fee for the day, also are dogs welcome?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Nick.
